Our Training Rules:
There are as many Horse trainers as there are methods for training Horses,
so like John Lyons, we have adopted the following 3 rules which we apply
to any training session.
Rule 1: I can't get hurt.
I am more important than the Horse, so he is not worth sustaining an injury
for. Getting hurt during a training session will not do anyone any good.
Your Horse won't intentionally hurt you, but accidents do happen, so you
have to work at minimizing the danger.
Rule 2: The Horse Can't get hurt.
Our training environment has to be as safe as possible and all necessary
safety precautions should be taken before training commences. We must
do everything possible to stop the Horse coming to harm during our training
sessions.
Rule 3: The Horse must calmer at the end of the Training session
than he was before we started.
This is the Horse's way of telling us that he understands and is comfortable
with the training session.
A calm responsive Horse is the best proof of the success of our training
program. A nervous Horse tells us that he is not sure what is expected
of him.
